If you are new to fantasy football, keeping up with the terminology can be daunting. Let’s start with one of the basics, Stacking.
“What is stacking?”, you may be asking yourself. Ok, let me try to explain it, in the best way I can. You guys may have heard of this little indie movie that came out a few years ago, bunch of superheroes fight this bald menace with a cool glove. Well in this movie, the main bad guy tries to collect all these stones to essentially make him this unbeatable force. The more stones he acquired, the stronger his glove got. So now you may be asking, “How does this relate to fantasy football?”. Ok, picture your team as the glove and the players you draft are the stones. The point of stacking is to find those elite connections(usually a QB and WR) and make sure you draft both of them. This can be a great way to maximize your weekly upside.
Stacking can be a surefire way to make your fantasy team a strong contender if done in the right way. With stacking, you are essentially making a bet on that offense’s production, specifically the players you drafted. When one player excels, usually the QB, it often means another player on the offense will excel as well.
Like I said earlier, stacks usually include a QB/WR stack. However, the stack doesn’t necessarily need to be just a QB/WR stack. It can in fact be different positions of the same offense, for example:
QB/RB – Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey
QB/TE – Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce
QB/WR – Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill
QB/WR/WR – Caleb WIllaims and DJ Moore/Keenan Allen
Stacking doesn’t always mean grabbing the QB and top WR/RB/TE. Stacking also works in the later rounds of the draft as well. For example, say you draft Josh Allen and someone else beats you to drafting Dalton Kincaid(TE), you can still find value in the later rounds by drafting one of the trio of receivers on the Bills, Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, or Curtis Samuel.
Stacking does require some knowledge of players and teams. You will need to identify the teams offense identity(whether they are a running team or passing team) and find the strong connection between the QB and his favorite targets. This will allow you to easily find a preferred stack for your fantasy team. Good luck on your drafts and I hope this post has been helpful.
